The “playing card” format using dual portraits that oppose each other became the “look” of phase two. It was a reaction to the unexpected cubist vocabulary becoming so unexpectedly predominate.
This was completely unexpected. Not just because the nature of working without a concept rather it simply seems uncharacteristic.
